Alphonse "Bois Sec" Ardoin

Bois Sec "Dry Wood", cousin to the famous Amédé Ardoin, continues the Créole music tradition that has been surpassed by Zydeco by the younger generation in Southwest Louisiana. He has recorded mainly with Créole fiddler Canray Fontenot, who passed away in 1995.

I was fortunate enought to hear Bois Sec play at the Breaux Bridge Crawfish festival back in May of 2000. I think at the time, he was about eighty-four years old. I was really sad and disappointed that there weren't more people listening to him play. The audience pretty much consisted of me and my dad, and some people waiting for the next band. I really enjoyed his performance, listening to him playing accordion and singing. After a long session, he gave up his chair to one of his sons, who played some more. I have a couple of pictures available here.
