Michael Doucet, who for many years has been the lead vocalist and fiddler for Beausoleil, the most popular Cajun band in America, was born in Scott, Louisiana, near Lafayette, on Saint Valentines Day in 1951 to a French speaking and musical household.

His musical career began with bands that played Cajun rock, such as Coteau and the Bayou Drifter Band, but during a time when there was a renewed interest in Cajun music, he formed Beausoleil with Bessyl Duhon and Kenneth Richard. Together they released their first album in 1976, and since then their popularity has risen until Beausoleil has become the most popular Cajun band.

He has learned from and played with many of the masters of Cajun music, including Dennis McGee, Canray Fontenot, Hector Duhon, The Balfa Brothers, and many others, and also plays regularly with Marc and Ann Savoy in the Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band.
