Cajun ArtistsIry LeJeune
Iry LeJeune stands without doubt as one of the finest Cajun musicians ever. His amazing technical abilities on the accordion and his haunting voice are prime examples of Cajun music. Born in 1928 near Church Point, Iry started playing accordion in the age of Cajun string bands. With only twenty percent vision he hitched rides to play dances as often as he could, was recognized for his incredible talent, and made several records. He was unfortunately killed while changing a flat tire at the age of twenty-six. Iry's recordings are some of my favorites, and I probably listen to them more than most of my other recordings. His emotional lyrics continue to move me every time I listen to them, and I am continually amazed at the music he produces on the accordion. |
